What is a
stretch ceiling?
A big change.
Minimal disruption.
A stretch ceiling is a custom-made ceiling covering made from high-quality PVC membrane. It is fitted into profiles fixed around the perimeter of the walls, then precisely tensioned to create a perfectly smooth surface across the entire room — dust-free, without demolition, without heavy construction work.
The result: an immaculate, seamless finish that instantly lends a modern, elegant touch to any space.
Whether flat ceilings, sloped sections, curved shapes or more complex architecture — every ceiling is individually manufactured at our production facility in Heiligenhaus and designed to meet your exact specifications. For residential interiors and commercial projects alike. From profiles and membranes to lighting solutions and accessories, we develop fully coordinated complete systems — as one of the few manufacturers with our own in-house production.
Suitable for every room — stretch ceilings integrate seamlessly into all living spaces: living room, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, hallway, or home office.

A ceiling that
changes everything

Sometimes all it takes is one element to completely transform a room. A stretch ceiling creates exactly that moment: more light, more clarity, more atmosphere — without major construction work. The before-and-after results speak for themselves: a space that feels more open, more modern, more valuable. A new visual dynamic, enhanced comfort, an aesthetic impact that’s immediately noticeable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about stretch ceilings
Yes, it is entirely possible to integrate technical elements into a stretch ceiling: lighting, spotlights, LED strips, speakers, ventilation systems or smoke detectors. Prior to installation, specific supports are fitted to securely hold the equipment in place. The membrane remains perfectly tensioned, free from mechanical stress, while maintaining an impeccable aesthetic finish. More elaborate lighting concepts — such as cove lighting or uniformly backlit ceilings — can also be realised.
Yes, stretch ceilings are perfectly suited to bathrooms and kitchens. They are moisture-resistant, unaffected by mould and easy to clean. The membrane does not absorb moisture and limits the build-up of condensation on the ceiling. Even in heavily used rooms, the surface remains hygienic, stable and durably attractive.
Stretch ceilings are particularly easy to maintain. A soft cloth and a mild detergent are generally all you need to remove dust or light soiling. Thanks to their anti-static surface, dust barely adheres, naturally keeping maintenance to a minimum. Aggressive or abrasive products should be avoided to preserve the finish and gloss level of the membrane. For more stubborn stains, you can use Spalek’s specialist cleaner, which is specifically formulated for the material.
Our high-quality stretch ceilings have a service life of 15 years and more. Confident in the reliability of our products, we offer a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty on welds and the spline (keder) system. In general, stretch ceilings are easy to maintain and the materials used are particularly durable, making them a long-lasting, dependable solution for many years to come.
Yes, a stretch ceiling can be removed and, in many cases, reinstalled. The profiles remain in place and the membrane can be carefully de-tensioned and re-tensioned at a later stage. The key requirement is a professional initial installation and a membrane in good condition. This flexibility is an added advantage, particularly when technical work is required or the interior layout changes.
Stretch ceilings generally comply with European fire classification B-s1, d0 and are therefore classified as difficult to ignite. This makes them perfectly suitable for commercial environments such as hotels, offices or public venues. The materials used do not produce burning droplets and generate very little smoke in the event of a fire. For smaller surfaces or specific requirements, Spalek also offers a fibreglass textile solution classified A2-s1, d0.
Modern stretch ceilings are long-lasting, recyclable and low in emissions. Spalek uses materials that comply with current European environmental standards. Thanks to their long service life and the absence of regular renovation work, they generate less waste over time. A responsible choice that combines technical performance with environmental care.
Yes, stretch ceilings are particularly well-suited to complex architecture: sloped sections, curved forms, irregular plans or unusual configurations. Since every ceiling is custom-made, almost any geometry can be achieved — from angled surfaces to undulating forms and organic curves. The membrane adapts precisely to the profiles and even allows for three-dimensional shapes and volumes.
In the event of water ingress, a PVC stretch ceiling can retain the water and effectively protect the room below. The membrane is watertight and flexible: it can temporarily hold a substantial amount of water without tearing. After the leak is repaired, the water is drained and, in the majority of cases, the ceiling can be re-tensioned without needing to be replaced. Spalek will then check whether the membrane can be fully restored to its optimal condition.
In principle, there are very few restrictions. Stretch ceilings can be installed in small rooms as well as across very large surface areas. For larger spaces, membranes are joined by welding, making it straightforward to cover halls, commercial areas or conference rooms. Fixing can be done to the wall or ceiling, depending on technical requirements and the architectural concept.
A stretch ceiling can significantly improve the acoustics of a room — particularly in its acoustic version with specific micro-perforations or with integrated absorbers. In offices, restaurants or large living spaces, it effectively reduces reverberation and sound reflections. Even in a private interior, this solution delivers noticeably improved acoustic comfort and a more pleasant everyday soundscape.
The cost depends on several factors: the size of the room, the chosen design, integrated lighting solutions, and the level of finish. Since every stretch ceiling is custom-made, an on-site measurement and personal consultation are essential for producing a quote tailored to your project.
