Optimal acoustics through Spalek micro-perforated stretch ceilings
Good acoustics are essential for wellbeing, concentration and the overall atmosphere of a space. Spalek acoustic ceilings combine cutting-edge technology with elegant design — creating spaces that are acoustically convincing and aesthetically outstanding. Using micro-perforated membranes and fabrics, sound waves are absorbed in a targeted manner, reverberation time is reduced, and speech intelligibility is significantly improved — all without visible technical elements or intrusive acoustic devices.

How Spalek Acoustic Ceilings
Absorb Sound and Reduce Reverberation

Our acoustic stretch ceilings are made from finely micro-perforated PVC membranes or fabric. With up to 400,000 micro-perforations per square metre, sound waves are converted into thermal energy, making the room noticeably quieter.
Three combined principles of action ensure maximum absorption performance:
- Dual absorption effect: sound first strikes the membrane and is absorbed. It then reflects off the existing ceiling above and is absorbed a second time.
- Micro-perforations: the tiny openings absorb mid and high frequencies particularly effectively.
- Absorbing material: acoustic fleeces installed behind the ceiling reinforce the effect and optimise sound quality.
The result: a balanced, pleasant acoustic environment, regardless of the size or configuration of the room.
Acoustic Solutions
for Every Space Type
From office to spa — systems tailored to every function
Whether a modern office, a restaurant, an educational facility or a wellness space, Spalek acoustic stretch ceilings adapt to all architectural and functional requirements. They improve speech intelligibility, bring greater calm and promote wellbeing — without any compromise on design.
Measurable Performance
Spalek acoustic stretch ceilings
are distinguished by their strong
sound absorption capability
The acoustic effectiveness of a ceiling is defined by the αw value (weighted sound absorption coefficient), which describes a material’s ability to absorb sound per square metre. A value of αw = 1.00 represents maximum sound absorption, while αw = 0.00 means no absorption at all.
Applied across the full ceiling surface, this absorption capability delivers an overall room acoustic performance that is difficult to achieve with conventional wall absorbers or isolated suspended elements.
Depending on the configuration, degree of micro-perforation and ceiling structure, Spalek acoustic ceilings achieve excellent αw values between 0.65 and 0.80 — placing them among the most effective acoustic solutions in their category.
The combination of a micro-perforated membrane, an optimised plenum and an acoustic fleece allows the system to be precisely tuned to the acoustic requirements of each space — from conference rooms and restaurants to large reception halls.

Understanding Acoustics
Before You Build

Uwe Ternieden
Graduate Engineer in Spatial Planning
Lecturer in Acoustics — Chamber of Architects
Certified Office Advisor (MBA)
For many projects, it is essential to be able to reliably assess the acoustic quality of a space before construction begins. This is precisely why Spalek offers its commercial clients a unique service. In collaboration with our in-house acoustician Uwe Ternieden, we digitally model each space and produce a professional acoustic assessment.
This analysis is based on recognised calculation methods in accordance with DIN 18041 and shows in detail the behaviour of reverberation times, absorption surfaces and sound distribution — both before and after the installation of a Spalek acoustic ceiling.
A particular highlight: we simulate the room’s sound using a listening sample. This makes it immediately perceptible just how much reverberation is reduced — and how much calmer, clearer and more pleasant the space becomes with our micro-perforated acoustic ceiling.
All calculation and analysis methods used comply with the standards of TÜV Rheinland, within whose certification programme Uwe Ternieden also works as an examiner.
